Everyone teaches.
Everyone learns.
Everyone makes.

We study why that matters.

Welcome!

The Expressive STEM Collective studies how families, youth, and community members learn, make, and imagine together. We are a research team working with libraries, cultural centers, schools, and university partners to investigate how intergenerational learning nurtures creative confidence, a process we call “expressive STEM.”

  • Everyone teaches — every participant brings knowledge worth sharing.
  • Everyone learns — including us, as researchers.
  • Everyone makes — through hands-on engagement with robotics, coding, circuits, and community science.

And everyone researches, too — because we build knowledge about ourselves, our families, and our communities, together. The Expressive STEM Collective invites families and community members to become co-investigators of questions that matter to them.

As a Research Collective, the ESC emerged from a partnership with Families Learning Together (FLT), a network of Expressive STEM Centers in San Marcos, Texas. As researchers we partner with a community of learners who have been exploring expressive STEM together since 2017.
